Not all grand prizes are created equal! You can see clearly that the value of the grand prizes varies wildly, but so does the number of raffle winners per prize.
Let’s say the ARV for each prize corresponds to its level of popularity amongst Starbucks Rewards Starland players and their distribution of raffle tickets. In other words, let’s assume 1/2 of the raffle tickets are entered for Free Drinks for a Year, 1/4 for Free Breakfast for a Year, 1/10 for a $500 Starbucks Gift Card, 1/10 for 15,000 Bonus Stars, and 1/30 for Triple Stars for a Year.
The Free Drinks for a Year and the Free Breakfast for a Year grand prizes are both going to have 50 raffle winners. However, if you enter into the Free Breakfast for a Year grand prize, you’re probably twice as likely to win than if you enter into the Free Drinks for a Year (although both will still be very low odds). The Free Breakfast for a Year grand prize is a great choice to pool your raffle tickets for if you love the high-end, higher-priced Starbucks breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and sous vide egg bites. If you are more of an under $3 bakery item person, this won’t be the most lucrative grand prize for you.
The $500 Starbucks Gift Card and the 15,000 Bonus Stars grand prizes are both going to have 100 raffle winners. Based on perceived value, I anticipate a pretty equal spread between these 2 grand prizes. How does that perception change if we look at 15,000 Bonus Stars from a Starbucks Hacker ARV? If you haven’t heard about the Caffè Misto hack, read this and then come back.
Starbucks wants you to imagine 15,000 Bonus Stars as 100 free handcrafted beverages at the 150 Star Reward tier, averaging $4.95 in value. I want you to imagine the same 15,000 Bonus Stars as 300 free Caffè Misto drinks at the 50 Star Reward tier, averaging $9.00 in value. The Starbucks Hacker ARV for the 15,000 Bonus Stars grand prize is now raised to $2,700 — clearly the highest value! And with 300 free drinks coming your way, that’s pretty close to having free Starbucks drinks for a year anyway!
The final grand prize to discuss is the Triple Stars for a Year with 300 raffle winners. I imagine the fewest raffle tickets will be entered into this grand prize and since the most winners are picked for this grand prize, your odds are likely the best here! Again, looking at the Starbucks ARV for this prize they want you to imagine triple Stars over a year as 25 free $4.95 handcrafted beverages. We can convert that to an estimate of 3,750 Stars, which we can instead imagine as 75 free Caffè Misto drinks. My Raffle Ticket Strategy
- Enter 2/3 of my raffle tickets for the Triple Stars for a Year, because most likely best odds.
